Within two days of each other, Michael Jordan, 20, won the London regional Skillbuild carpentry championship, and Michael Allwright, 29, became the Skillbuild painting & decorating regional champion for East of England.
A week later, 18-year-old Level 3 electrician Minesh Patel swept to victory in the Yorkshire & Humber regional final of the SkillELECTRIC competition.
The winners are all based in the College’s Technology Faculty in Dudden Hill Lane, Willesden – where nearly 5000 students are taught a wide range of skills.
All three are likely candidates to go forward to the national finals in Scotland in October - run by WorldSkills UK. The top performers have the chance of selection for World Skills in London in 2011 if under the age of 22.
Finally 17-year-old Jurijs Pasternaks, who is studying to be an IT practitioner, won through to the national final of World Skills UK Web Design, after being chosen from 77 other candidates.
Jurijs was one of 15 competing in Milton Keynes (South East region) over two days at the end of June, with the results announced in July. He did not win a top prize, but he came sixth out of 15, with a mark of almost 79 per cent, which is good going for a 17-year-old.
CNWL Principal Vicki Fagg said the successes were ”fantastic”, adding: “I am absolutely glowing with pride. It just goes to show how effective the Competitions Day was in bringing out the talent – worth all the hard work.”
