The welfare service is a free, impartial, confidential service offering advice and information about matters relating to social security benefits, housing, immigration, childcare, and student funding, along with other social and educational issues. The service is available to all students studying at the College of North West London.
Our Welfare Advisors are here to offer advice and help with:
- Fee issues, such as instalment plans and fee waiver requests
- Grant and loan issues, such as applications for grants and emergency loans
- Childcare issues, such as nursery price guides
- Benefit issues, such as applications for benefit, and explanations of benefit letters
- Immigration issues, such as contacting the Home Office, sorting out National Insurance numbers, benefit rules for students, and financial assistance for Asylum Seekers and Refugees
- Accommodation issues, such as finding a place to live, emergency hostels, applying for housing benefits, and putting you in contact with other agencies that can help
- Other issues, such as contact details for local councils and other government departments
We are open on a drop-in basis but appointments can also be made if necessary. We also talk to groups of students via tutorial sessions which tutors arrange for their classes.
The welfare team members will endeavour to resolve any issues presented to them but if more expertise is required students will be referred on to external agencies.
