If you have been living outside the EU or EEA for the last three years and you wish to study in the UK, you will need a Student Visa.
This usually affects you if your nationality is outside the EEA. You must apply for a Student Visa before you leave your home country.
What kind of Visa do I need?
If you are under 18, you will need a Child Student Visa.
If you want to study for more than six months, you will need a General Student Visa. This will allow you to work up to
20 hours per week and renew your Visa whilst in the UK.
If you want to study for less than six months and do not want to renew your Visa, you will need a Student Visitor Visa. Remember, you will NOT be able to work or renew your Visa in the UK.
General Student Visa
You will need a minimum of 40 points to apply for a General Student Visa.
The College of North West London is an "A" rated college in the UKBA register of educational institutions (Sponsor Licence Number: SNL 3N1160EE5)
and a Highly Trusted Sponsor.
A Confirmation of Acceptance letter from the college will give you 30 points towards your total number of points.
The other 10 points comes from a financial maintenance test. When you apply for your visa for the first time you will need to prove that you can
pay for the first year of your course fees, plus £5,400 for your living expenses for the first nine months of your studies.
In order to get a General Student Visa you must be accepted on a full-time Full-time courses consist of 16 hours study per week.
International students on full-time courses must study a minimum of 15 of day-time tuition per week. You must also:
Provide the original documents that College of North West London has used to check your qualifications and experience;
Provide the evidence of the necessary resources needed to study abroad i.e. all your course fees, plus £5,400 in your own bank account
(This money has to be in your bank account for at least one month before you apply for your visa).
What you need
When you apply for your Visa, you will need to present the following documents and comply with medical and bio-data collection requirements:
An Unconditional Visa letter from the College of North West London
A letter from your parent, guardian or financial sponsor guaranteeing your fees and maintenance costs for the duration of your studies
(or from you if you are going to finance your studies yourself).
Bank statements and a letter from your bank showing you have the necessary funds to cover your course fees and living expenses (£5,400)
for the first nine months.
A valid passport.
Two recent passport-sized photographs.
Your original educational diplomas and certificates (and references if required).
A statement of your intention to leave the UK at the end of your studies.
Evidence of an address in the UK or an accommodation offer from the college.
Some countries require a medical certificate.
Student Visitor Visa
If you want to study part-time or on a course for less than six months, you will need to apply for a Student Visitor Visa.
You will have to apply for this before you leave your country. As with a General Student Visa, you will have to submit many
of the documents listed above. Please check the Student Visitor Visa application requirements with your local High Commission or Embassy.
